Feature | Brother
Being a fellow Irishman and also having a brother, I felt I could be a little bit biased in this review. However, for the sake of impartiality, I will try my best to remain as indiscriminate and professional as possible when relaying my thoughts.
Although Brendan is Irish through and through, right away when listening to Brother I immediately got strong western and cowboy vibes. One thing I really love about music in general is its ability to convey certain moods and themes just through sound alone, and Brother really does this well when it comes to capturing the Wild West vibe. This feeling is only enhanced by the music video which is surprisingly high-quality in production.
Overall, the song itself has a strong spirit of an anthem about it and a pretty epic feel to it, the drums in particular really hit hard. I think the music alone is gripping enough in its nature that even if Brother was just an instrumental track, I feel it would have succeeded in what it was going for.
However, when paired with Brendan’s powerful voice and the inspirational words of the lyrics themselves, the complete expression and message of the song really shines. With the world the way it is at the moment, and a lot of music promoting downright demonic behavior, I found Brother refreshing in its positive message of resilience, brotherhood, and solidarity through the ups and downs of life.
I am not the biggest listener of country music personally, but I’d definitely consider adding Brother to my ever-rotating monthly playlist for a bump in mood and I can see the track having some worldwide appeal, especially in the cowboy states of America.
