Feature | Parasite
I was only thinking to myself the other day that I seriously need to find some more good modern rock music to listen to. I noticed, while going through my rock playlist that 99% of the tracks were from the past. Not wanting to become out of touch, I scoured the internet to find the best rock bands of today, which turned out to be quite a bit more difficult than I imagined. Maybe I’m just getting old.
Or maybe I just hadn’t heard any good modern-day groups worth my time …until now! As soon as I pressed play on “Parasite” and heard the opening synth arpeggio, I knew I had just discovered something intriguing. It must be mentioned that this little ten-second synthesized intro and the accompanying visuals really do a great job in setting the scene for what is about to unfold.
After that, when the song kicked in, I was a little surprised (in a good way). Instead of the instantly hard and fast rock beat I was expecting, I was instead met with a beautifully harmonic beat and some hauntingly hypnotic vocals that took me mesmerizingly back to the many female lead alternative rock bands of the 90s.
As the track continues to build, the lyrics continue to become more insightful, more philosophical, more penetrating, and by the end is almost frightening in its level of truth (I recommend checking out the official lyric video). If you’re looking for an artistic voice to encapsulate the unsettling emotions you have been feeling in regards to this whole AI takeover thing, “Parasites” is definitely the song for you.
I really mean it, and I want to say it again to really get the point across. The lyrics here are brilliant in how they lyrically and poignantly sum up the dystopian horror situation we currently find ourselves in. It’s really refreshing to see that there are still some artists out there fulfilling their societal purpose of shining light on and criticizing the current state of our crazy world.
“Parasites” is unquestionably one of the best songs I’ve heard so far in 2025, and it gives me hope for the future of music. With such intense lyrics and a hot-blooded beat to match, this song should be number 1 right now in the charts, in my opinion. You should definitely check it out if you’re looking for an exhilarating anthem of our times.
