Feature | The Star
From the very first moment I heard Michellar I instantly became a fan. I am always searching for new original artists who focus on creating the songs they want to make rather than just following current mainstream trends. I am happy to be able to say that Michellar is certainly one of these artists, and more. She beautifully blends everything that made folk music great throughout the decades with a modern flavor that reinvigorates a genre that many have considered to be past its prime. With this said, I was looking forward to getting a sneak peek of her newest song ‘The Star’ before it is officially released later this month. Needless to say, I was not disappointed, and I think this might be Michellar’s best song yet. Within the notes, there is an almost palpable sense of her truly becoming comfortable with herself as an artist and starting to really ‘find her own voice as one’, pardon the pun.
As for the song itself, the guitar melody is delightfully sublime, and you could easily listen to a one-hour instrumental version to help my workdays pass by more blissfully. The lyrics are magical in their simplicity and Hemingway-like in their prose and the message contained within is beautifully warm and endearing. I feel as though ‘Christmas Songs’ aren’t really a thing anymore, but I am really glad that it hasn’t died out altogether. I’d gladly vote for more new songs with a festive vibe to their countenance, and I appreciate the fact that Michellar is doing her part to keep this time-honored tradition alive.
In a world so hostile and ugly as the one we find ourselves in these days, it is refreshing to hear an artist with such a positive and wholesome message. As a musical metaphor, ‘The Star’ more than does its job in shining bright as a beacon of hope and strength, and I hope this song gets the recognition and praise it deserves this upcoming holiday season.
