Red Mercury’s latest single explores an exciting electronic soundscape. Driven by a persistent drum beat and throbbing bass, “I Still Remain” delivers compelling vocals and synthesizers that produce a sci-fi sound from another world. Red Mercury artists, Steve Gregory and Isobel Crawford, concocted this delightful blend in their own music studio in London, England. The song itself is impressive as is, but it becomes even more uniquely so when paired with the absolutely beautiful short film that the group created in just nine months to accompany their track.

Set in stunning mountain terrain, the film follows a team of humans and robots who are on a mission to combat some ferocious-looking intergalactic vermin. Isobel Crawford’s soulful voice seems to provide narration for the inner voice of the woman soldier who is the focal character of the video. This is made extra interesting by the added layer of spoken narration in the video. While the spoken words outline the mission at hand, the sung lyrics provide a more personalized and emotional version of the experience the character is having. Crawford’s determined voice and lyrics are brought to life in the video as we get to experience the unique effect of a movie built around a song.

Musically, “I Still Remain” blends genres and talents that span multiple continents. Steve Gregory is the mastermind behind the track production, weaving intense electronic beats that ebb and flow in unpredictable patterns. It’s like a club beat, but one that would make you want to stop dancing long enough to actually take in the song, especially with Isobel Crawford’s emotionally charged lyric writing and vocals. The two British artists collaborated with Matthew Gray Mastering in Brisbane, Australia to take their mix to the next level, resulting in a clean and splendidly cohesive track.

The video and song both bring me back to some classic combat video games, especially with the quick tempo and fast paced action. It’s a brilliant combination of effects and truly makes what could have just been a stand alone single into a whole experience.
