Backed by a haunting merry-go-round tune, Scirii’s vocals shine from the first moments of her dark indie-pop single “Femme Fatale”. The song was recorded in Scirii’s bedroom studio with only the essentials (a microphone and computer) and the drive of a talented up and coming artist. This is the latest of two singles released in 2025 by Scirii, who hails from Watford, England. 

I was immediately taken in by Scirii’s hypnotizing voice. Her voice rises and falls effortlessly, delicately lighting on each note and word before floating to the next.The harmonic vocal layers create the sensation of multiple voices singing in such perfect sync, they become indistinguishable from each other. It makes me think of a mermaid siren song, giving the listener a sense of unease while drawing them in until they have been thoroughly taken captive.

It certainly isn’t difficult to be captivated by Scirii’s sound, but her lyrics deserve equal attention. She tells her tale of the Femme Fatale, the beautiful, charming, and mysterious woman, who generally brings about misfortune to those who fall for her. This intriguing archetype of so many books and movies is lyrically brought to life through Scirii’s first person narration. “You’ll fall down and you won’t mind, until you look around and find that I’m one of a kind, but you won’t notice the signs, cause love makes you blind.” This line is just one of the pieces of the story Scirii has crafted from the perspective of the femme fatale herself, warning the one that has become transfixed by her that they aren’t really seeing what they're getting themselves into. 

I absolutely love how she tells this story. Often, femme fatale characters are made out to be the “bad guy”, but Scirii’s song invites us to reflect on the fact that sometimes the blame of misfortune also lies with the one who has willingly walked into a trap. “And you won’t notice the signs ‘cause pride makes you blind, so steel your face for your fall from grace.” I look forward to seeing what my new favorite femme fatale artist does next.
