Feature | Soaked to the Soul
When you think about a genre of music that best defines the American spirit, what comes to mind first? For me, it’s got to be country music! I love music from the 50s and 60s, which really brilliantly capture the sentiment and soul of the time, and jazz is great too for its own reasons, but it’s country music that is still going strong today while the others have more or less faded into the background of time.
With that said, I don’t know of too many new country singers flying the flag for this brand of music in 2025. That’s when Vanngo came along and reminded me just how timeless country music really is. As soon as I started listening to Soaked To The Soul, I could imagine it being both sung around a small campfire somewhere in the Wild West or on the stage at some big country rock concert out Tennessee way.
I listened to the official lyric video version of the track on YouTube, which was a great help for connecting with the song, as I could really feel the emotion in the words as I listened and read along with them. Vanngo really put some poetic effort into the lyrics here and I’m sure wherever the late great Hank Williams is now, he would approve if he heard them.
The idea of using rain and stormy weather as a powerful symbol of human emotions is a timeless motif that goes all the way back to ancient Greece and even features in the bible, and Vanngo beautifully applies this primeval concept into both the lyrics and video of Soaked To The Soul.
The vocals are drenched in emotion, their meaning will lead you from the bottom of the barrel all the way to invigorating you with enough grit to face the storm, as all the while the guitar strings strum triumphantly in their own folkish and undeniably charming way. If you are looking for a ballad to embody whatever struggles you’re currently going through, or just want a new country song to sing along with this summer, either way, Soaked To The Soul is definitely the one for you.
